BEDROOM TAX – NO THANKS!

I notice in the most recent copy of Your East Riding a page advertising the need for Foster Parents. It says that prospective foster parents must have a Spare Room. Unfortunately under the new Housing Benefit rules the “Bedroom Tax” does not recognise foster children as being in need of a bedroom. So our prospective foster parents will either have to give up their house and move to a smaller one (which does not exist according to the East Riding housing spokesperson) or lose between £14 and £25 a week for the privilege of looking after a foster child. This iniquitous policy should really help to increase the number of people willing to foster a child!

I understand that my MP Graham Stuart thinks it is an excellent policy. I find it amazing for its stupidity as well as its cruelty. I expect the young soldiers returning home from Afghanistan finding that under this “Bedroom Tax” their mums are not able to give them a bedroom any more will be equally amazed.
